History

Returning to her roots as a jazz vocalist going back 25 years, Kirsten released There Are Such Things in 2008. A stripped down, evocative, duo album, the well-received record features 10 tracks. My Mother’s Songs will be released in early 2010, an improv project recorded with regional luminaries George Mitchell, Dan Schulte, Charlie Doggett, and John Nastos. She plays out regularly throughout the Pacific Northwest at venues like Wilf’s, Encore 310, Riverplace, Heathman, and others.

For 12 years Rian was co-owner of Rust Records, an independent record label, and lead singer and co-founder, producer, and songwriter for the award-winning and nationally-recognized alternative rock band, In June. The band produced four full-length albums, and a vinyl release, secured national airplay on commercial radio specialty shows, and college radio across the country, charting on CMJ top 20 lists at hundreds of stations, and earning luminous press from such revered publications as Virtually Alternative, Album Network, Alternative Press, and CMJ.

IN JUNE achieved considerable recognition for their songwriting and musical talents including, 1996 Musician Magazine Best Unsigned Band Finalist; 1995 TicketMaster/Musician Magazine Showcase finalist; First Place 1995 Sony Studio contest; 1994 Yamaha SoundCheck Finalist; featured artist on Oblivion Records SXSW CD Sampler; featured artist on CMJ Certain Damage samplers #55, #58, & 1997 Convention Edition; over 300 radio adds for “Ungawa beepbeep” and “Melt”; 350 radio adds for “Exit the Blue”; CMJ Top-35 and Adventure Picks; appearances on Virtually Alternative CD #87 and B.L.A.S.T. compilation CD to commercial radio specialty shows 12/97; ALBUM NETWORK #973, 12/12/97; ALBUM NETWORK profile #980, 1/30/98; featured artist on Virtually Alternative CD Sampler, December, 2001; featured artist on SXSW Edition Pop Culture Press CD Sampler, 2002, featured artist on Virtually Alternative CD Sampler, May, 2002.

She teaches private voice lessons out of her home, as well as at Cadenza Academy.
